Mecklenburg County Sheriff Jim Pendergraph, a strong advocate for strict immigration enforcement, is stepping up to a federal role. Known for his dedication to removing criminal aliens from local jails and standing up for honest Americans, Pendergraph has long been a key voice in North Carolina.
Now, after more than a decade as sheriff, Pendergraph is retiring from his position effective December 1, 2007, to join the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Washington, D.C. In his new role, he will coordinate state and local immigration enforcement efforts across the country.
