The Daily Kos, often regarded as a hub for “reasonable progressives,” revealed a darker side following news of Rush Limbaugh’s hospitalization in Hawaii. Though Daily Kos is frequently contrasted with the more extreme Democratic Underground (DU), both communities exhibited similar levels of hostility toward the conservative radio host.

A thread on the Daily Kos quickly filled with hate-filled comments about Limbaugh. The posts mirrored those found on DU, proving that the Kossacks are just as venomous. Some examples from the Kossacks include:

  • “He does NOT have a f—ing right to make up s–t and present it as fact to incite his millions of so-called ditto heads to hatred and violence.”
  • “I hope this piece of human excrement that has lied his way to a fortune is silenced for a long time… eternity.”

The vitriol continued throughout the thread, with comments ranging from celebrating Limbaugh’s potential death to fantasizing about him in jail. Here are more disturbing remarks:

  • “Why isn’t this POS in jail? He needs to be sharing a cell with a large angry black homosexual.”
  • “I hope he dies, and I’m glad he’s sick. He’s divided our nation and been nothing but a bad influence.”

This response to Limbaugh’s illness exposes a level of hatred among the Kossacks that rivals their DU counterparts. If anything, Limbaugh’s eventual recovery will likely push these detractors further over the edge.
