Today, Colombia’s national police chief publicly revealed evidence linking Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to the funding of the FARC terrorist group. On CNN Español, photos and letters recovered from the laptop of a dead FARC leader showed correspondence between Chavez and the FARC, thanking him for financial support and promising to back his revolutionary goals.
The documents also outlined plans to use Chavez’s funds to purchase uranium for the development of nuclear weapons. Bank records revealed that Chavez provided $300 million to FARC, intending to buy military support and collaborate in a plot to overthrow Colombia’s President, Alvaro Uribe.
Bloomberg further reported:
“Documents from the computer of Raul Reyes, FARC’s second-in-command, indicate that Venezuela provided at least $300 million to the guerrillas. The files also suggest FARC was seeking to acquire 50 kilos of uranium, aiming to engage in international terrorism.”
This discovery sheds light on the extent of Chavez’s involvement with FARC, a group recognized globally as a terrorist organization. The findings have intensified concerns about Chavez’s efforts to destabilize neighboring Colombia and his involvement in potential nuclear weapons development.
