The incident, which occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Taylorsville Highway, has left the community on edge as police search for the two suspects involved.
According to the Statesville Police Department, the armored truck guard exited the CVS and returned to his vehicle when two suspects confronted him. Despite his critical injury, the guard managed to draw his weapon and fire back at the suspects, who quickly fled the scene in a bronze-colored Dodge Charger.
The injured guard was rushed to Iredell Memorial Hospital, where he received treatment for his wounds, which thankfully were not life-threatening. Brinks, the security company employing the guard, has not commented on the incident, referring all inquiries to the police.
