STATESVILLE, N.C. — A Brinks armored truck guard is recovering after being shot during a bold daylight robbery outside a CVS Pharmacy in Statesville on Friday afternoon. The incident, which occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Taylorsville Highway, has left the community on edge as police search for the two suspects involved.

According to the Statesville Police Department, the armored truck guard exited the CVS and returned to his vehicle when two suspects confronted him. The robbers, intent on stealing from the truck, engaged in a violent confrontation with the guard, during which he was shot in the upper torso. Despite his critical injury, the guard managed to draw his weapon and fire back at the suspects, who quickly fled the scene in a bronze-colored Dodge Charger.

The injured guard was rushed to Iredell Memorial Hospital, where he received treatment for his wounds, which thankfully were not life-threatening. Brinks, the security company employing the guard, has not commented on the incident, referring all inquiries to the police.

This robbery marks the second attack on a Brinks armored truck in Charlotte within the past month. On July 31, two assailants robbed another Brinks guard on Ikea Boulevard in Charlotte, making off with $277,000 in cash. Earlier in the year, another Brinks truck was targeted outside a QuickTrip gas station on North Tryon Street.

The string of armored truck robberies has raised concerns among law enforcement and the public alike, with authorities investigating possible connections between these incidents. The Statesville Police Department is actively pursuing leads and has urged anyone with information to contact them at (704) 878-3406.

As the investigation continues, residents and businesses are advised to remain vigilant. The daring nature of these robberies highlights the risks faced by security personnel and underscores the importance of community awareness in helping to prevent such crimes.

This developing story is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by criminal elements willing to commit violent acts to achieve their ends. As more information becomes available from the ongoing investigation, updates will be provided.
